The Exquisite Corpse 2

A apathetic rock skipping a failed dog.

So my parents and aunt and uncle came up to visit me this weekend and while we were at starbucks this man had this dog with him. I really liked the dog and it reminded me of my sentence, so since i had my camera i took a picture of her. I found out later the dogs name was georgie girl and it was a rescue dog that had a lot of things wrong wit her which also reminded me of the failed dog portion of my sentence.

sep 17 lecture

So last friday's lecture had to do with the different era's of art. Now i really didn't know much about the era's or styles of art that was talked about in the lecture except for cubism. So this lecture taught me about post-modernism, modernism, impressionism and how all these shifts affected art.

So my group said i got the a very basic shape of the object, but it can definitely be improved and so can the craft. i needed to give it a more roundish shape in the corners.

sep. 10 lecture

So this lecture further explained to me where artists creativity stems from as well as the different blocks that keep artists from doing work, such as cultural and intellectual blocks.
creativity can stem from personality originality and also curiosity.

So i've given it a more roundish shape, but my group suggests i add really good texture as well as making it even more round to make it seem more seed-like. then i need to close the holes up.

sep. 3rd notes

So this lecture was about what art is and the different styles of art. So we went over how art expresses emotion and the effort that the artists put into there artwork. This lecture taught me more about the styles of art such as stylization which i didn't  really know what that was, but now i know and understand how that works with abstract art.

cardboard object progress report

So i have a very general shape and it doesn't really look like my seed at all at the moment, but i'm hoping with more time it'll look more like the seed.

So this is my object, its a type of seed. It feels bumpy and it has all these crevices in it. It also sounds like there's something inside.

Final 2 squares

I chose the right one for my playful, because it reminds me of pac-man and there's nothing not fun/playful about pac-man. i chose the one one the left as my periodic because to me something that looks like it has a  pattern or symbol seems orderly. My group later agreed that the playful one worked very well, but my periodic one needed some more work to make it seem more periodic.

The apathetic rock stared blankly as it skipped passed the failed dog, for he would not eat the blueberry.

Final product of dots project

Group dot critique

So first my group placed my top sixteen sketches in the gestalt principles that they thought they belonged to. It turns out a lot of the ones I had done for similarity seemed like proximity to them, so there were very few similarity to choose from but plenty of proximity. They also pointed out to me that most of my compositions had a lot of big dots and yet somehow also a lot of negative space. The reason I made the dots big was to put them in the proper scale so they looked like my thumbnail sketches, and I also wanted to make them visible from far away. My group also stated that my proximity and similarity sketches were very random visually. The reason behind that was i wanted to make my similarity sketches as random as I could so that the only thing that looked the same was the size of the dots, so that people could tell it was similarity, obviously my plan didn't work. "Too Much Random You Haxor" is what I was told by one of my group members about all the visually random sketches i had. So from this critique i was suggested that i should vary the sizes of my dots for my final four sketches that would create the final product. I also wanted to try and reduce the negative space i had possibly for my proximity piece. So my group gave me very helpful advice during their ten minute critique of my top sixteen sketches.

Final 16 Dot project

So many dots.... Anyways my group critiqued my dots and gave me the final four that i would use for the end product.

Dot project progress

These are my 40 thumbnail sketches. i had a fun time coming up with different combinations for the dots.

Friday's Lecture Notes

Composition: Overall, finished product. An organization of ideas/elements

Types of composition: Writing, music, visual, nature, dance, theater, drawing

Elements:
dot
line
form/shape
color
texture
space
value

This lecture gave me a nice overview of the elements, and was a good introduction to Gestalt which i found out has to do with the whole of a composition and the sum of its parts. It also taught me about the principles of gestalt which are
continuance-movement
closure- seing something that's not really there
proximity- space between
similarity-patterns and sizes

Newspaper/Cinder block experience

This was a very fun experience. Being told to create a structure with newspaper and tape to hold up a cinder block presented quite a challenge on how to make the structure. So i decided to go simple and create a column. It had a weak side so i made a support beam for my column and attempted to place the cinder block on my structure and it held.
